The University of Utah is gearing up for a historic start to its 2023 football season. On Thursday, Aug. 31, the campus will be buzzing with energy as the Utah Utes host the Florida Gators for their home opener. This highly anticipated event is expected to attract fans from all corners of the country. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved, the university is making preparations and providing important information regarding potential impacts and necessary adjustments.
To ease congestion and minimize travel difficulties on game day, the university suggests the following transportation alternatives:
- Public transportation:
Taking advantage of public transportation, particularly TRAX, is highly recommended. TRAX offers a reliable mode of transportation that is less likely to be affected by heavy game-day traffic. Those interested can find Park and Ride locations here. Remember that your U card includes a TRAX pass. - Additional Parking:
If driving to campus is unavoidable, additional parking options will be available. Staff, faculty, and students can park at Stillwell Field between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Parking will also be available in the Shoreline parking garage, Merrill Engineering building and any northern campus parking lots.
On Thursday, August 31, at 1 p.m., all lower and main campus parking lots will be opened for “Crimson” parking.
With more than 8,000 cars typically parked on campus during a regular fall schedule on Thursday afternoons, the university advises students and faculty to adjust their schedules and explore alternative instructional models whenever possible. Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Mitzi Montoya sent a letter to deans and leadership team members on June 28 with instructions to share with faculty members across campus. Read that letter here.
Additionally, staff members who can work remotely are encouraged to do so, freeing up daytime parking space for essential students, staff, and faculty. Staff members should discuss this option and obtain approval from their supervisors.
