As 2025 pushes on, the University of Utah continues to emphasize its commitment to micro-mobility and sustainable transportation options. We know parking is hard, but now it is easier than ever to park on the outskirts of campus and take a ride to where you need to be with Spin scooters. And as of this year, you can now quickly and conveniently pay for your ride using UCash on your UCard!

How to use Spin scooters with UCash

Before you grab a Spin Scooter, load up your UCard with UCash. To add cash to your card, you can use cash, check, or debit/credit card. Simply visit the UCard Office (Union Rm 158 or University Hospital LL2 Room B016), a Marriott Library Deposit Station, or the online card office. Additional details, including other ways you can use UCash, can be found on the UCard website.

Once you’ve added money to your UCash balance, you’re almost ready to ride. Download the Spin app, create an account with your payment information, then locate a scooter. Don’t forget to add your UCard to your Spin account under the Payments section in the app!

Once you’ve found a scooter, scan the QR code on the scooter’s handlebars to unlock it. Scooters cost $1 to unlock and $0.23 per minute of use. Don’t forget to kick-start your scooter to gain momentum!

Getting the most out of your ride

To make the most of your Spin experience, use the Spin app to find the most effective path to your destination. Stay informed and keep an eye on university communications for any updates or changes to the Spin program. Please be respectful and mindful of others while you’re riding a scooter to ensure campus stays a safe and pleasant place for everyone.

Parking, safety and regulations

While riding a scooter, it is imperative to yield to pedestrians, follow roadway rules and traffic signs, and wear a helmet for safety. When you’re done with your ride, be sure to return your scooter to a designated station. Remember to always ride and park responsibly!

To take advantage of this free money, follow the steps below.

1. Open your Spin app.
2. In the top left-hand menu, head to “Payments.”
3. Add UCard as a payment method if you haven’t already. You should then see UCard under your “Saved Payment Methods.”
4. Click “+ Add Money,” choose $20 to add via your UCard and confirm payment.
