Greetings, loyal University of Utah fans!
The campus is abuzz in anticipation of the upcoming athletics season. Whether you're a die-hard supporter of football, basketball, gymnastics or any other sport, your enthusiasm is what makes our community thrive.
For many of us, our love for sports runs deep, and attending games, meets, matches and doubleheaders is an integral part of our lives. As we gear up to cheer on our talented athletes, we invite you to embrace the spirit of good sportsmanship and unity that defines our fan base, both on and off the field, court or pitch, and give all fans a sincere “Welcome to Utah.”
This spirit of camaraderie was highlighted in the annual Fan Up message from President Taylor Randall and Athletics Director Mark Harlan.
“We ask fans—students, student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and community members—to show their Utah pride by promoting a positive environment that is respectful, safe, welcoming and family-friendly. Your safety, and the safety of all in attendance is our top priority!” said Randall and Harlan. Read the full letter here.
The Fan Up initiative is a call to action for all U fans to embody the values of good sportsmanship, respect and consideration for others, especially our fellow athletes and fans from visiting teams.
When you take the Fan Up Pledge, you commit to...
- Supporting our student-athletes and welcoming visitors: Let's extend the warmest welcome to visiting teams and their fans on our campus.
- Promoting a family-friendly experience: Create an environment where families can enjoy the game together.
- Enjoying the game responsibly: Let's cheer with passion while respecting the experience of others.
- Cheering loud and being Ute Proud: Be vocal and proud of our team, demonstrating the true Ute spirit!
Our expectations for a respectful game day
To maintain the integrity of our sports events, certain behaviors will not be tolerated and may result in ejection from the MUSS and Rice-Eccles Stadium. These include:
- Alcohol possession
- Public intoxication
- Excessive language
- Rude and disrespectful behavior
- Throwing items
- Smoking, vaping or chewing tobacco
Ejections will be determined at the discretion of stadium security and the University of Utah Police. Please note that if you are ejected from the stadium, you will lose the privilege of attending the next home football game.
Your role as a Fan Up supporter
Should you witness any inappropriate or concerning behavior during the game, we encourage you to take action. Simply text "FANUP" to 69050, including a description and location of the incident (message and data rates may apply). Your vigilance can help ensure a positive and respectful atmosphere for everyone.
The dedicated student members of the Mighty Utah Student Section (MUSS) have pledged to adhere to the Fan Behavior Guidelines as part of the rules and regulations of Rice-Eccles Stadium and the Fan Up initiative. They are also expected to follow the Student Code of Rights & Responsibilities, demonstrating responsible and respectful behavior throughout the season.
Thank you, Utah fans
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for your unwavering support of our teams. U games are meant to be a loud and rowdy celebration of athleticism, but never at the expense of anyone else's enjoyment.
Together, we form one of the most loyal fan bases and we eagerly anticipate joining forces with you to cheer on our student-athletes in the upcoming season. They are working tirelessly to succeed, and your Fan Up support means the world to them. Let's make this season one to remember, not just for victories on the scoreboard, but for the unity and respect we bring to every game.
