Several new laws adopted during the 2024 General Legislative Session and signed by Utah Gov. Spencer Cox will impact people, programs and policies on the University of Utah’s campus.
The most complex pieces of legislation include limitations and guidelines for equity, diversity and inclusion efforts; rules for who can access restrooms that are attached to changing rooms, locker rooms and showers; and the elimination of diversity commitments and statements in university hiring and admission decisions.
University leaders have developed several FAQs with guidance for campus. The 2024 session ends March 1. These documents will be updated as we learn more:
