GIVE YOUR THOUGHTS ON FOOTHILL DRIVE

The Foothill Drive Implementation Strategy project team wants to hear from the University of Utah community on ideas for improvements to Foothill Drive.

The Foothill Drive Implementation Strategy project team wants to hear from the University of Utah community on ideas for improvements to Foothill Drive.  University students, faculty, staff and community members are urged to participate in the project’s online workshop, found at foothilldrive.org, by Oct. 10, 2016.

foothill-logoThe Foothill Drive Implementation Strategy is a partnership among Salt Lake City, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), Utah Transit Authority (UTA), Salt Lake County, University of Utah and Wasatch Front Regional Council. The project will identify short term and long term strategies to address traffic congestion, improve neighborhood connections, enhance safety, and provide transportation options on Foothill Drive/500 South from 1300 East to I-80.

Foothill Drive is a crucial corridor for the University of Utah community. It is a primary link to and from the campus, is a key part of the campus environment, and serves as a gateway to the campus.

The project Steering Committee has developed eight goals for the project. These include:

  • Preserve and enhance communities along the corridor
  • Move more people through the corridor
  • Enable access to destinations by all modes along and across the corridor
  • Contribute to complete multimodal transportation networks
  • Manage transportation demand by providing and promoting options
  • Enhance safety for all users
  • Develop a strategy for broadly acceptable and achievable change
  • Create an ongoing inclusive process

These goals have guided the project team and Steering Committee to develop a series of ideas for the Foothill Drive corridor. The team and the Steering Committee developed a set of potential Foothill Drive street elements and six Foothill Drive corridor alternative scenarios. The project team held an open house to communicate these ideas on Aug. 31. Now, the information presented at the open house is now available in an online workshop to gather the community’s feedback.

Through the online workshop, you will be able to:

  • Learn about the project and review the goals that guide the project.
  • View the street elements that are being considered for the Foothill corridor.
  • Explore the alternative scenarios.
  • Tell us what you think using our Online Report Card.

The project team will be taking input in the online workshop until Oct. 10, 2016.

Additional information is also available on the project website, including background documents, existing condition analysis and a full range of corridor concept ideas. Visit our website at foothilldrive.org  or email foothilldriveslc@gmail.com.
