Support the University of Utah American Indian Resource Center this summer at the inaugural Native Excellence Gala. The gala is a signature event that brings together Tribal Nation heads of state, community partners, educators, students, and community members to celebrate change makers and leaders who are making a positive impact on behalf of the Indigenous community.
The event will take place on June 22, 2023, at the U’s Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House located on 155 Central Campus Drive in Salt Lake City. The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a VIP reception, followed by the Native Excellence Gala from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Native Excellence Awards will be presented in eight areas of excellence categories, including Wisdom Keeper, Changemaker, Lifetime Achievement, Native Excellence at the U, Native Excellence in Education (P-16), Native Excellence in the Community, Native Excellence in Health Equity and Community Partner. Recognitions will also be given to Native Excellence scholars.
The prestigious awards are bestowed upon individuals nominated by members of the community, who exemplify “Native Excellence” and whose leadership inspires, uplifts, and paves the path forward. The evening will also include dinner, a silent auction and entertainment to amplify and celebrate award recipients.
Nominations for honorees are currently being accepted. The deadline for submission is May 1, 2023, with ticket sales also beginning in May.
Proceeds will support the American Indian Resource Center Scholarship Fund. Details will be shared on the division for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion’s website, email lists, and social media (@uofuedi on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) as they become available.
