Women’s Week is an annual, weeklong event focused on issues and challenges women face in America. Topics are relevant to today’s socio-economic and political climate, intersectionality and cultural movements.
This year’s Women’s Week is March 5-9 with the theme “Resilience: We are Powerful Because We Have Survived.” Resilience, defined in the broadest terms is the ability to adapt to adversity and stress and to thrive despite these. As our political climate continues to move toward repressive policies, women have come to the forefront of resistance movements.

March 8, 2018 | 12 p.m.
Union Panorama East
For first generation Colombian American muralist, Jessica Sabogal, art serves as a haven, a tribute, a creative outlet of adoration and exaltation for women with stories often untold. Her pieces possess a vision of female identity that is revolutionary and powerful, brave and beautiful. By utilizing a spray can, she aims to color her canvas by unraveling stories she once heard, lived, struggled, and loved.
Throughout the years, Sabogal has consistently reinvented what it means to be a female muralist in a male-dominated medium. She has continuously pushed the boundaries as an artist by utilizing her medium for social change, action, and empowerment.
