Honoring veterans all week on campus

A full schedule of events will honor veterans on campus the week of Nov. 11, including the 27th annual Veterans Day Commemoration on Friday, Nov. 15. Organized by the Veterans Support Center, in conjunction with the university Veterans Day Committee, the Hinckley Institute of Politics and the Student Veterans at the U. The scheduled activities strive to engage campus, support student veterans and recognize remarkable veterans from across the state.

As part of the commemoration on Nov. 15, several cannon blasts will be discharged outside the Union building: three test blasts at approximately 9 a.m.; one at 11 a.m. to signify the signing of the Armistice ending World War I; and a 21-cannon salute around 11:45 as part of the formal program.

The annual commemoration ceremony will be held Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. in the Union Ballroom. It will be preceded by a bagpipe procession from the Marriott Library to the Union at 10:30 a.m. Nominations for veteran honorees came from across the state, and the 11 selected to be honored will receive a commemorative medallion onstage. The Student Veteran of the Year will also be named at the ceremony.
