Pioneer Theatre Company, Utah’s premier professional theatre company in residence on campus, caps off its 2024-25 season with the Utah premiere of the delectable Broadway hit, “Waitress.” Adapted from the 2007 Sundance film, the musical follows Jenna, a talented small-town baker and waitress stuck in a crumbling marriage. When an unexpected bun in the oven shakes things up, a local pie-baking contest with a cash prize becomes a ticket to a sweeter future for Jenna and her baby. Nominated for four Tony Awards and featuring songs by Grammy Award-winner Sara Bareilles, “Waitress” is baked to perfection with humor, heartache and plenty of flaky situations, creating a recipe of self-discovery and second chances.
Two University of Utah students will perform in the ensemble: PTC alum, Jordan Cruz (“Jersey Boys”), and making his PTC debut, Luke Foti (Department of Theatre’s “Spring Awakening”).
“Waitress” runs from May 2-17 at the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. Tickets are available at pioneertheatre.org or by calling PTC’s Box Office at 801-581-6961.
