Thousands of graduates and their families celebrated one of life’s major milestones at the University of Utah’s commencement and convocation ceremonies during the month of May, while the U’s team of security professionals worked seamlessly behind the scenes to ensure everyone’s safety.

Months of meticulous planning precede graduation activities. From comprehensive venue assessments to coordinated emergency response plans, the Department of Public Safety collaborates with multiple partners across campus to create layers of security that protect while remaining largely invisible to attendees.

This extensive preparation allows families and graduates to focus on what truly matters–celebrating their achievements. “Safety and security are woven into every aspect of graduation planning,” said Captain Brian Lohrke of the University of Utah Police Department, ensuring that these milestone moments remain worry-free for all participants.

Even behind the scenes, the Department of Public Safety’s commitment to “making it safe for U” allows graduates’ meaningful moments to  take center stage, secure in the knowledge that those celebrating are safe.
