We need U for Employee Appreciation Day

Volunteers are needed for the annual event taking place at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Sept. 23, 2022.

This year’s University of Utah Employee Appreciation Day (EAD) will take place in person on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium. All faculty and staff— including student-employees—are invited to attend.

All attendees should bring their UCards to enter the event. Student-employees with a student UCard should email ead@utah.edu with their uNID. They will receive a confirmation email, and they should plan on bringing/showing this confirmation along with their UCard to enter. If you are a supervisor to a student-employee, please pass this information to them.

Volunteers needed

Volunteering at EAD is a great way to meet people throughout the university and to say thanks to fellow staff members. Volunteers are asked to work one- to two-hour shifts and will receive a volunteer T-shirt. If your schedule allows for you to help at EAD, then click here to sign up. The sign-up form closes on Friday, Aug. 19.

What’s new at EAD?

This year, the entire stadium concourse will be utilized, offering the opportunity for more exhibitors and activities. This is also a great chance for attendees to get their steps in by taking laps around the concourse.

Because we will be using the full concourse, there will be two entrance and exit gates:

  • Gate D on the west side of the concourse
    • TRAX travelers should utilize Gate D
  • Gate J/K on the east side of the concourse
    • Shuttle drop-offs will take place by Gate J/K

This should cut down on the time spent waiting in line to enter the stadium.

Activities and entertainment

In-person

EAD offers a wide variety of entertainment, activity opportunities and of course, free pizza, drinks, dessert and swag courtesy of our exhibitors. Entertainment and activity opportunities this year include:

  • Football field-goal kick
  • Live music
  • Hooked on Books
  • Variety entertainment
  • Juggling performances
  • Airbrush temporary tattoos
  • Flu shot clinic
    • If you can’t make this year’s EAD flu shot clinic, there are several other ways to get your flu shot this year. Vaccines will be available at your local pharmacy or through your health provider’s office. Departments may also coordinate their own flu shot clinics by contacting Sandy Robison at sandy.robison@utah.edu.

New activity

This year’s EAD will feature “Putting with the Police” located on the stadium field. Pair up with a University of Utah police officer to see if you can get a hole-in-one using a comically large golf putt.

Virtual

Virtual selfie bingo returns for its third year as a virtual activity option for employees who work from home or are unable to make it to the in-person event. Bingo submissions will open on our bingo website on Monday, Sept. 19 and will close on Friday, Sept. 23. Participants will be able to upload selfies directly to corresponding bingo squares. Complete a line of five blocks—horizontal or diagonal—to be entered into a raffle for prizes.
