ASUU’s fall concert, Redfest, will take place on Friday, Sept. 16, at the A. Ray Olpin Student Union. The headlining artist is Jeremih, with two openers: Isaiah Rashad and Roc Worthy. Tickets are free for students and $20 for non-students.
“We are expecting Jeremih to be a big hit in our student community and to be a fun performance for everyone to attend,” said Zach Berger, Campus Events Board director. “We hoped to achieve some degree of cohesion in the musical styles of our headliner and opening acts while simultaneously appealing to a broad student demographic.”
ASUU modeled Redfest, to some extent, on the Salt Lake Arts Council’s Twilight Concert Series, and given that Twilight’s most well-attended shows have historically been R&B/hip-hop shows, the Campus Events Broad felt that an artist from that genre might attract the most attendees and generate the most excitement within the student body.
“We hope that this will be an event that enriches the university’s campus life and provides students with a fun, free night of entertainment,” said Berger.
In addition to music, Redfest will feature vendors that will provide additional activities and attractions like henna tattoos, food trucks, inflatables and merchandise tables. Artists who have performed at Redfests in the past include Wiz Khalifa, B.O.B., Lupe Fiasco and Vic Mensa.
“The artists who will be performing this year are extremely high-energy and have achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success,” said Berger. “We look forward to continuing the Redfest tradition with a stellar fall 2016 artist lineup.”
Roc Worthy, a student artist, will perform the opening act. ASUU is excited to support members of the student body and to provide a platform to display student excellence.
