Deadlines are coming up for flexible spending accounts.

Deadline for requesting FSA reimbursements

Dec. 31, 2019, is the deadline for requesting reimbursement for eligible expenses for participants in the university’s Flexible Spending Account Plan between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019. Amounts not reimbursed by the end of 2019 will be forfeited. If you have any questions about your FSA participation, log on to HealthEquity.com or contact HealthEquity at 866-346-5800, 24-hours a day.

Ways to save health plan dollars this flu season

It’s not too late to get a flu shot at a pharmacy or at your health care provider’s office. The cost of the flu shot is covered at 100% by the university’s Employee Health Care Plan.

If you get the flu or have another urgent medical concern, use Virtual Urgent Care or go to RedMed.

  • Virtual Urgent Care:  All university health care plan participants in the Advantage and Comprehensive options can use Virtual Urgent Care at no cost (including your enrolled family members). Go to healthcare.utah.edu/virtual-care or access Virtual Urgent Care through your MyChart account.
  • RedMed:  All university employees can visit RedMed for urgent medical care. Go to hr.utah.edu/RedMed for more information or to schedule an appointment. Remember that RedMed should be your first stop if you experience a work-related injury or illness (unless the injury is life- or limb-threatening). RedMed will be closed Dec. 24, 2019, through Jan. 1, 2020.

Use Virtual Urgent Care for allergies, cough, cold, flu, eye infections, sore throat (adults only), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sinus problems, skin issues, stomach/digestive issues or urinary issues (adults only).

RedMed can treat all those conditions, plus bleeding, cuts, broken bones, burns, chemical exposures, exposure to blood-borne pathogens, pregnancy screening, routine immunizations, sprains, strains and other diagnostic testing.

New IRS limits for 2020

The IRS recently announced increases for employee contributions to 403(b) and 457(b) Plans. In 2020, you can contribute up to $19,500 ($26,000 for employees age 50 or older), to both the 403(b) and 457(b) supplemental retirement savings plans.

To increase your deferrals or begin saving now—it’s never too late—log in to UBenefits. Log into UBenefits at hr.apps.utah.edu/ubenefits and click on the Retirement Savings tile. You can schedule the increase to begin with the Jan. 7, 2020, paycheck by clicking on the “Schedule a Future Change” hyperlink.
