CAMPUS COMMUTER IMPACTS

Intermittent lane and road closures will occur on 500 South, between 1300 East and Guardsman Way, along University Street and some campus parking lots, beginning Wednesday, June 14.

The university is working with event organizers from Young Living Essential Oils to host a conference on campus Wednesday, June 14, Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17. The conference is expected to draw up to 20,000 attendees to Rice-Eccles Stadium. Activities conclude Saturday evening with a private concert at the stadium. The concert is expected to end around 10 p.m.

The event organizers have worked with state officials (UDOT) to schedule intermittent lane and road closures on 500 South, between 1300 East and Guardsman Way, as well as along University Street.

In addition, University Street between 400 and 500 South — just west of the TRAX station — will be closed to regular traffic, but residents and their guests living in the area will be allowed through. The east side of University Street from Presidents Circle to 400 South is expected to see increased traffic for passenger drop off and pick up.

The following parking lots on campus will be affected:

  • The Rice-Eccles Stadium west parking lot will be completely closed from Monday, June 12 through Saturday, June 17. Parking attendants will be directing commuters to the Central Parking Garage.
  • The east half of the College of Law parking lot (lot 2), will be closed at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 7. The remainder of the parking lot will not be impacted.
  • The east stadium parking lot (lot 9), will have 50 reserved stalls on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, but the remainder of the lot will be open to those with the proper permits.
  • The “E” lot used for tailgating on Guardsman Way will have roughly 200 stalls blocked off towards the west end for charter bus staging. The area will be blocked all day Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, however, day time parking will be allowed as long as vehicles can vacate by 4 p.m.
  • The business loop and institute parking garages will have afternoon parking moratoriums.

Buses will be staging in the “E” parking lot used for tailgating on Guardsman Way. Curbside parking along the roadway will be restricted.

The campus community and residents should expect delays during the time frames listed below, and if possible, plan on using an alternate route.

On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 9 p.m.-1 a.m., passenger bus loading will take place on 500 South, utilizing all lanes of traffic.
