COVID-19 tests covered for plan members of University of Utah employee health plans

Each person enrolled in the health plan can purchase up to eight tests per month and have the costs covered.

University of Utah employee health plans will cover the cost of at-home tests for COVID-19 for plan members with symptoms of the virus or a recent exposure. You can either purchase a test at a pharmacy using your health plan ID card and not pay out of pocket or be reimbursed up to $12 a test by submitting the receipt to Regence. Each person enrolled in the health plan can purchase up to 8 tests per month and have the costs covered.

You also can get four free COVID tests for your household from the federal government by going to covidtests.gov. These tests will not ship until the end of the month though, so if you need a test immediately it is better to buy one and have it covered by the health plan.

The cost of tests is not covered for asymptomatic individuals. If you are asymptomatic and want a test you can use one of the eight self-serve locations on campus for a PCR test. These test kits are for employees only (they require a UID and CIS password) and positive results will be reported to the contact tracing team.

Family members who are asymptomatic and have not been exposed, but need a negative test for employment or to attend an activity (like a concert or sporting event), should schedule a test on campus at the Officers Club staff-assisted testing site.
