U implements organizational updates under COO office

The University of Utah has implemented a series of organizational changes under the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) as part of a broader effort to streamline resources, strengthen collaboration and enhance coordination across campus. Effective July 1, 2025, these transitions reflect the university’s commitment to align operational units for greater efficiency and impact.

Among the key changes:

  • Housing and Dining Programs: Housing and dining operations have transitioned from Student Affairs to Auxiliary Services, bringing these functions together under one unit to better serve students and campus residents. The newly combined Housing & Dining Programs department is led by Sean Grube. Residential Education remains within Student Affairs under its new name, Office of Residence Life.
  • Red Butte Garden & Arboretum: Transitioned from reporting directly to Laura Snow to Auxiliary Services.
  • University Guest House & Conference Center: Transitioned from Student Affairs to Auxiliary Services.
  • University Information Technology (UIT): Transitioned from the Office of the CFO to the Office of the COO.
  • Department of Public Safety: Transitioned from the Office of the CFO to the Office of the COO.
  • Chief Data Officer: Ravneet Chadha, who assumed the inaugural role in March, reports to the Office of the COO.

“These adjustments reflect our continued focus on building stronger connections between units,” said Chief Operating Officer Jeff Labrum. “As we improve operational alignment, we ensure the university is well-positioned for the future.”

Transitions are already underway across these areas. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to reach out to their supervisor or department lead with any questions about the updates.
