As part of the U’s ongoing efforts to strengthen data security and protect sensitive information, sharing settings in Microsoft 365 (M365) were changed on Thursday, July 31, 2025. File and site permissions for the M365 suite of products that were overly permissive were administratively removed.
No files were deleted or moved; only the sharing permissions were administratively changed.
If your access to M365 files and/or SharePoint sites was affected, the owners of those files/sites must update permissions to allow access to intended recipients. Instructions for changing file/site permissions are available in the IT Knowledge Base article “Changing Microsoft 365 permissions” (login required). M365 products include OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
