What to do with your UCard over Winter Break

Looking for things to do over winter break? Here’s a list of ideas that are free or discounted with your student ID.

Attend a Women’s or Men’s Basketball game

Students are allowed one free ticket and up to three guest tickets for all men’s and women’s home basketball games. Information on how to claim tickets here.

Home basketball games over winter break:

  • Dec. 14 | 5 p.m. | Men’s Basketball vs Radford
  • Dec. 17 | 7 p.m. | Men’s Basketball vs Florida A&M
  • Dec. 21 | 4 p.m. | Women’s Basketball vs Arizona State
  • Jan. 4 | 5 p.m. | Men’s Basketball vs Texas Tech

Watch “Souvenir” at the new Meldrum Theatre

Check out Pioneer Theatre Company’s latest show, which details the true account of Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy socialite with an insatiable passion for opera, despite possessing a hilariously tone-deaf voice. The show runs Dec. 6-21.

Students can get two $5 tickets with their Arts Pass. Faculty and staff can buy tickets for a 50% discount with their UCard at the box office.

Visit the Natural History Museum of Utah

With the exception of Christmas Day, the Natural History Museum of Utah will be open all of winter break. It’s the perfect time to check out the museum’s latest exhibit—Orcas: Our Shared Future.

Admission is free for students, faculty and staff with their UCard.

Museum hours:

  • Open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays
  • Closes at 3 p.m. on Dec. 24
  • Closed Dec. 25.

Attend the first Utah Women’s Gymnastics home meet

On Jan. 3 at 7 p.m., the Utah Red Rocks will have their first home meet against Utah State University. Students are allowed to claim one student and one guest ticket for home gymnastics meets. Information on how to claim tickets here.

Visit Red Butte Garden and Arboretum

While less is blooming in Red Butte Garden during December, a winter walk through the garden can be magical and relaxing, especially if it’s snowing. The garden is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and will be closed for a holiday break from Dec. 24- Jan. 1.

Admission is free for students, faculty, and staff with their UCard.

Get outside with rental equipment from Outdoor Adventures

Outdoor Adventures will open and rent equipment during the break. Try out a new hobby with special rates for students. Check out equipment offerings here. Outdoor Adventure operation hours can be found here.

Visit the Utah Museum of Fine Arts

The Utah Museum of Fine Arts will be open over the break, Tuesdays-Sundays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. It will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1. Check out the recently opened exhibit “salt 16: Arleene Correa Valencia.”

Admission is free for students, faculty and staff with their U card.

Attend a Utah Symphony performance

If you’d like to get off-campus, the Utah Symphony offers half-price tickets for students and people under age 30. Find a full list of performances here.
