Grab a debate swag bag

Each bag contains a set of vice presidential debate bingo cards and markers to play along while watching.

Planning an international media event that will be viewed by over 100 million people is a logistical challenge on a good day, but during a pandemic, there are an exponential number of challenges. But there is one thing that remains constant—free stuff.

In the absence of in-person watch parties for the vice presidential debate to be held at the University of Utah on Oct. 7, 2020, 7 p.m. MT, the committee in charge of student engagement for the debate has produced a debate watch bag with a host of free items students can pick up at one of three convenient campus locations beginning Sept. 28.

Inside the debate bags, students will find information on why debates matter, red, white and blue snacks, as well as the traditional political fanfare of commemorative buttons and stickers.

As a way to increase engagement with the debate safely each bag contains a set of vice presidential debate bingo cards and markers to play along while watching. Spoiler alert: The card with Dr. Anthony Fauci’s name in a box is a sure winner. Bingo cards will also be available to download online at debate2020.utah.edu.

The giveaway bags also feature items specific to the time we live, notably a commemorative face mask and hand sanitizer.

Free Pepsi products including red and blue varieties of Gatorade will also be available to pick up and will go well inside the debate branded red and blue stadium cups.

The locations set up to safely distribute vice presidential debate student swag bags are the following:

  • The Union Building Service Desk | 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Kahlert Village Information Desk | 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Peterson Heritage Center Information Desk | 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition, at each of the above locations students will be able to take a selfie with the cardboard cutout candidate of their choice and post to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #UofUvpDebate and get a free commemorative 2020 vice presidential T-shirt seen above.

Note: Quantities are limited. Not all items pictured will be in giveaway bags. For questions please contact debate2020@utah.edu.
