This February NBA stars from across the globe will be traveling to Salt Lake City’s Vivint Arena, home of the Jazz, and the University of Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center for the 2023 NBA All-Star events. The public events are scheduled for Feb. 17-19, see the full list of events and ticketing information here.
Campus preparations are scheduled to begin in and around the Huntsman Center as early as Monday, Feb. 13. Impacts will include the placement of a safety and security perimeter fence as well as intermittent road closers to the two westbound lanes of traffic on South Campus Drive between Mario Capecchi Drive and 1800 East.
Campus impact information can be found below.
The 2023 event marks the 72nd anniversary of the All-Star Game and the 30th anniversary of Salt Lake City hosting the event for the first time in 1993.
The U is among 12 partners dubbed the Salt Lake All-Star Alliance—a group comprised of local business leaders and community influencers—all are committed to hosting a successful event that will benefit the city and the state for years to come.
Recent reporting from Utah Business magazine suggests this event could boost the economy in the state by upwards of $250 million, read the full article and analysis here. This number is an estimate based on the 2022 event hosted in Cleveland that produced, “direct net economic benefit to the city of a stunning $141 million, part of $248.9 million in total economic impact.”
Additional benefits to campus may be similar to what was experienced before and after the 2023 Rose Bowl. Read the full analysis here.
University of Utah Health experts will also be on-hand to provide services to players should they get injured.
