Human Resources announcements

Volunteer at Employee Appreciation Day, prescription drug changes, supplemental life insurance maximum increase and WellU requirement changes coming for non-UUHC employees.

The U needs U

Consider volunteering for this year’s Employee Appreciation Day. This event wouldn’t be possible without the help of generous U employees like you who volunteer just one or two hours of their time. As a thank you, all volunteers receive a T-shirt and a choice of athletic tickets.

Chief Human Resources Officer Jeff Herring and Heather Kingsford, Employee Appreciation Day volunteer chair

This year’s Employee Appreciation Day celebration is Thursday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium. All U employees, including part-time and student employees, are invited.

“I enjoy volunteering at Employee Appreciation Day because I get a chance to meet fellow employees that I would not have crossed paths with any other way,” said Amy Tolman, of University Human Resource Management. “Also, how often do you get to try to kick a field goal on the football field? Just a little bit of my time can make an enjoyable day for others.”

To volunteer, please fill out this form, to choose the time of day that works best for you and the type of work you’d prefer. A committee member will confirm your assignment via email in mid-September.

Prescription drug changes

As a reminder, changes to the Employee Health Care Plan’s prescription drug coverage were announced in the Open Enrollment booklet in May. To encourage health plan members to use university pharmacies, coinsurance amounts and per script out-of-pocket maximums changed effective July 1, 2019, for network pharmacies other than University of Utah Health pharmacies. In addition, specialty medications are now covered as a separate tier.

For mail order information or to find a University of Utah Health pharmacy near you, go to the Pharmacy Services webpage. Health plan members using specialty medications are encouraged to use the University Health Specialty Pharmacy.

Supplemental life insurance maximum increase

The Hartford has agreed to increase the maximum amount for voluntary employee supplemental term life insurance. All employees can apply for supplemental term life insurance coverage up to $500,000. Employees with university earnings greater than $100,000 may apply for up to five times their annual salary (up to a maximum of $1 million).

To apply for coverage or an increase to your current life insurance coverage, print and fill out the application and send it to HR to complete the employer section.

Completed forms can be sent securely from your university email address to benefits@utah.edu. Contact University Human Resource Management at 801-581-7447 for additional information.
