For many people, their passion for learning doesn’t end after they obtain a degree or certification. Instead, the learning experience is an ongoing pursuit of knowledge for them that not only stimulates their minds but also fulfills their soul.
At the University of Utah, that need for knowledge can be satisfied through an array of classes offered through programming in the division of Continuing Education. With the holiday season fast approaching, now is the perfect time to consider giving the gift of learning for that someone who enjoys expanding their horizons.
While most of the holiday-themed classes have already filled, there are some fun choices still available that can be used to give and gift in the weeks before year’s end.
Quick Sketch for the Holidays: Spread some creative joy as you create holiday artwork that can be used for cards and gifts as you discover how to draw with flowing lines and paint with vibrant watercolors.
Bronze Clay Jewelry: An Introduction: Discover the versatility of bronze metal clay to make stunning custom jewelry such as pendants, earrings and bracelet charms.
Legacy Planning and Gifting Strategies: Whether gifting to loved ones or favorite charities, “Giving While Living” enables people to enjoy the distribution of their assets while still alive, and in some cases provides tax benefits for their family long-term. This class can help determine if “giving while living” suits you and your family.
Scotch for the Sophisticate: Discover the nuanced differences and unique expressions of scotch through featured selections from Japan, Ireland, within the category of single malts. Led by an experienced guide, this tasting experience promises to deepen your appreciation for the diversity of whisky traditions.
Beef Bourguignon: Cook up a holiday meal to remember as you learn how to prepare and combine ingredients for one of Julia Child’s most popular dishes from an instructor who hails from the same region of France as the famous dish–Burgundy!
“The gift of an experience offers something special—a chance to explore new passions, savor the present and connect more deeply with others. This holiday, why not give a gift that enriches and inspires?” says Isabelle Solvang, Director of Lifelong Learning. “Gifting an experience isn’t just about a single moment—it’s about opening the door to something new, whether it’s a lifelong hobby, a creative skill or just a chance to unwind and enjoy.”
Lifelong Learning has been offering non-credit classes to the community for over 60 years, spanning one-day workshops to eight-week courses taught by local experts. Admission to the University of Utah is not required with classes starting weekly and conveniently during evenings and weekends.
