I’m curious about something in this article – is the General Social Survey the one Wolfinger conducted? The reason I ask is because if the General Social Survey asks about extramarital sex but doesn’t differentiate between “cheating” and “ethical non-monogamy,” how did Wolfinger differentiate which one is occurring among older Americans?
I’m extremely curious about the data in the study and would like to know more – how do I find the published article?

      Hi Amanda,

The General Social Survey is a national survey overseen by the University of Chicago. The survey has been around since 1972 and seeks insights into Americans’ attitudes, behaviors and attributes. The data is used by researchers such as Professor Wolfinger as well as policy makers. Here is a link where you can learn more about the survey: http://gss.norc.org/About-The-GSS

You also asked for a link to Professor Wolfinger’s article. You’ll find it here: https://ifstudies.org/blog/americas-generation-gap-in-extramarital-sex

Thanks for reading the story and let me know if you have more questions.
