With the 2024-2025 school year right around the corner, Commuter Services, U Safety and the Sustainability Office encourage you to use Bike Index to register your bicycle!
Bicycle registration is quick, easy and free of cost, and helps return your property to you if it is stolen. Remember to wear a helmet, obey the 10-mph speed limit on campus paths, and always yield to pedestrians!
How to register your bicycle
After you have verified that your type of bicycle is permitted for use on campus, choose between online and in-person registration. To complete your registration online, visit the registration webpage. For in-person registration, visit the Campus Bike Shop or University Police during business hours.
- Campus Bike Shop hours are generally Monday-Friday 8am-4pm*, but check the website for updated hours.
- Schedule your service in advance with our helpful scheduling tool!
- University Police office is open 24/7
*hours subject to change
On the registration webpage, follow the simple step-by-step instructions. Don’t forget to have your bike’s serial number on hand for registration! If you are having trouble finding your serial number, check out this helpful resource. Fill out the registration form near the bottom of the page so your registration information is saved.
Where to get your sticker with UCard
Once you finish registering your bike, check your email to be notified when your sticker is available for pickup. Stickers must be displayed on your bike to ensure it is properly registered for use on campus. Pick up your sticker from the Campus Bike Shop. Remember, you must show a valid UCard to receive your sticker.
Final steps
Once you have your sticker, it’s important to link it to your registered bike. To link your sticker, follow the instructions on the back of the sticker. Once you’ve linked your sticker, place the sticker on your bike in a visible location on the bike frame.

What devices can I use to get around the University campus?
Before you register your bike, see University Policy 3-232 as this defines what personal riding devices are allowed and how they are regulated on campus premises.
These personal riding devices are permitted:
- Bicycle
- Skateboard
- Scooter
- Roller skates
- Electric assist bicycles (Class 1, 2, and 3)
- Electric assist skateboards and scooters (UL certified only)
Under University policy, illegal riding devices can be impounded, and fines imposed by Commuter Services. Improper use or storage of riding devices resulting in injury to other persons or property damage may subject you to criminal prosecution or civil liability under applicable state law.
Electric bicycles vs. electric motorcycles
Devices that do not have factory installed pedals, can reach or maintain a speed of 20 MPH on motor power alone, or are equipped with a 750W or greater motor aren’t classified as e-bikes and must be registered appropriately per Utah code 41-6a-102 and University Policy 3-232 as either an OHV or motorcycle. Parking devices like this at bike racks will result in citations and may be impounded.
