Why the U is making the ACT and SAT optional

The decision recognizes the difficulties many students are encountering in taking the tests due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a brief summer hiatus, the “U Rising” podcast is back. In the newest episode, U President Ruth Watkins talks to Steve Robinson, senior associate vice president for enrollment management, about two new initiatives aimed at easing the admission process to the state’s flagship university.

The decision to make the ACT and SAT optional recognizes the difficulties many students are encountering in taking the tests due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Robinson also discusses the positive reception the For Utah Scholarship has received, with more than 800 students accepting a scholarship for the Fall 2020 Semester.
