Campus tours are a great way for students and their families to visualize life at the University of Utah. For two hours, a student ambassador guides families through spaces where students may spend a lot of time over the next several years, allowing students, parents and family members to ask questions and better understand all the U has to offer.
But what if you and your tour guide don’t speak the same language?
For the first time, the Office of Admissions is offering Spanish language campus tours—virtually for now, with in-person tours to be offered soon.
“We want the U to be a welcoming and accessible place to visit for all prospective students and guests,” said John Marfield, executive director of admissions. “The college admissions process is a family process and we hope this option allows everyone to get excited about being a part of the Utah community."
Currently, four student ambassadors are able to provide the tours in Spanish.
“As a first-generation Latina, I feel immensely grateful to be in the spaces I am today,” said Brenda Garcia, a bilingual University of Utah student ambassador. “As a university ambassador, I have the opportunity to introduce the U to prospective students and parents. Now, thanks to the tours in Spanish, I’m able to connect with Spanish-speaking students and their families as I show them around campus and tell them what the U has to offer. I feel truly privileged to contribute to bridging the gap between underrepresented students and higher education.”

“Having this opportunity has allowed me to realize how welcoming the U is and allowed me to share how much I love the U—now in two different languages,” said Madisen Ontiveros, a bilingual University of Utah student ambassador. “I’ve been extremely blessed and honored to work with my fellow ambassadors to start offering tours in Spanish and help me along this new route of inclusion and diversity that we’re trying to promote through the Office of Admissions.”
Visitas al campus en español
Los recorridos por el campus son una excelente oportunidad para que estudiantes y sus familias visualicen su vida en la Universidad de Utah. Durante dos horas, un estudiante embajador guía a las familias a través de los espacios donde los futuros estudiantes pasarán mucho de su tiempo durante los próximos años, lo que les permite, no sólo a ellos, sino también a sus padres y familiares, hacer cualquier pregunta y comprender mejor todo lo que la U tiene para ofrecer.
Pero, ¿qué pasa si tú y el guía del campus no hablan el mismo idioma?
Por primera vez, la Oficina de Admisiones ofrece visitas virtuales por el campus en español, y pronto ofrecerán recorridos en persona.
“Queremos que la U sea un lugar que reciba y sea accesible para todos los posibles futuros estudiantes e invitados”, explicó John Marfield, director ejecutivo de admisiones. “El proceso de admisión a la universidad es un proceso familiar y esperamos que esta opción permita que todos se emocionen por ser parte de la comunidad de Utah".
Actualmente, cuatro estudiantes embajadores pueden ofrecer los recorridos en español.
“Como latina de primera generación, me siento inmensamente agradecida de estar donde me encuentro hoy”, señaló Brenda García, embajadora estudiantil bilingüe de la Universidad de Utah. “Como embajadora universitaria, tengo la oportunidad de presentar la U a futuros estudiantes y sus padres. Ahora, gracias a los recorridos en español, puedo conectarme con estudiantes hispanohablantes y sus familias mientras les muestro el campus y les cuento lo que la U tiene para ofrecer. Me siento verdaderamente privilegiada de poder contribuir a cerrar la brecha que existe entre estudiantes de escasa representación y la educación superior ".
La oficina está comenzando con visitas virtuales en español con el objetivo de ofrecer los recorridos en persona a medida que aumenta la demanda.
