[bs_col class=”col-sm-8″]Laboratory studies involving recombinant and synthetic nucleic acids are regulated by the NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities (OBA) and non-exempt studies require registration with, and approval by, the University of Utah Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).

Violations of NIH guidelines are serious and have to be reported to the NIH OBA with the potential for harming the reputation of the University. Compliance with these guidelines is a requirement for all Institutions receiving NIH funding for research and failure to comply could have serious consequences, including loss of funding.

Information on requirements to register with the IBC can be found at the Department of Environmental Health and Safety website. [/bs_col]
