Did you know that according to a nationwide survey of college first-year students, 85% agree that they are attending college to get a better job? Another 76% attend to get training for a specific career. And 60% conclude that the choice of university largely depends on the ability of its graduates to obtain strong career outcomes.* Career outcomes are important for students, and here, at the University of Utah, our president agrees.
We are pleased to announce that in August 2022, the University of Utah launched the Career Success Presidential Initiative. Under the leadership of President Taylor Randall, Special Advisor to the President and Assistant Dean at the David Eccles School of Business Katie Abby is directing a revitalization of career services that encompass purposeful collaboration with employers, and personalized coaching for students. The hope is to increase outcomes with a powerful impact on individual students, for the workplaces they will change for the better and for the many lives they will influence.
With expert specialist coaches embedded in each participating school, students will have access to a range of services, including:
- Career exploration
- Self-branding on LinkedIn, Handshake, portfolios and more
- Custom internship and job searches
- Impact resumes plus cover-letter writing and review
- Interview prep
- Salary negotiation—a key to entry-level and beyond
Here are the career coaches for each embedded program:
- College of Science: Laura Cleave
- Department of Communication: Brianda De Leon, Giovanna Percontino, and Dominic Militello
- Department of Film & Media Arts: Jennifer Meuse and Sara K. Scott
- School for Cultural & Social Transformation: Jennifer Meuse and Sara K. Scott
