Lori Feld Oakley has joined the University of Utah staff in the new position of student experience marketing director. Oakley comes to the U after a celebrated career in the private sector, most recently serving as president of the North American office of the international advertising and branding agency McCann.
“Lori is a tremendous addition to the university’s marketing and communication team,” said Bill Warren, chief marketing and communications officer. “She brings a blend of consumer intuition, creativity, data analysis and technology prowess to our efforts to recruit and retain Utah’s top students and grow our increasing national and international reputation.”
The new position reflects an increased focus at the university on lifecycle of the student experience — from recruitment through graduation, and beyond.
“Students are choosing the University of Utah because they know they will have an engaged and meaningful experience with faculty and programs at a Tier 1 research university. Lori’s experience creating and leading marketing efforts for national brands will help us share this story with prospective students, their families and alumni,” said Mary Parker, associate vice president of enrollment management.
Oakley says her choice to leave the private sector was influenced by the university’s reputation and an unprecedented opportunity. “Higher education is in the midst of a major transformation, and creating an extraordinary student experience is crucial to compete for the best students. We have exceptional faculty and a great story to tell. I’m excited to be part of what I consider one of the country’s elite public universities” she said.
Oakley attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her first day at the U was Oct. 23.
