All matriculated University of Utah students with an active student ID number now have access to purchase meal plans in the Housing U Portal through CIS, whether they live on campus or not.

“The University of Utah Dining Services is proud to partner with Housing and Residential Education to offer a one-stop shop dining plan purchase experience for all students,” said Chuck Weaver, director of Dining Services. “The partnership with HRE allows meal plan charges to be posted on students’ tuition bill rather than the upfront cost at the time of purchase.”

With this implementation, students can choose between five plans containing shared features:

• Swipes: All-you-care-to-eat meal experiences in dining halls.
• Flex dollars: Declining balance payment method that is sales tax exempt.
• Transfers: Students can use a meal swipe equivalent to purchase items at various retail locations across campus.

Meal plans provide convenient and accessible dining options throughout campus. Dining Services offers two ”all-you-care-to-eat facilities and eight transfer meal-eligible retail and cafe locations. Options range from grill items at the award-winning Game Concept in Urban Bytes at Kahlert Village, to packaged meals from third-party local brands such as Saffron Valley or Tonkatsu Ramen.

How to purchase a plan

1. Log into the University of Utah CIS with your uNID and password
2. Under the “Student” section, select “Student Homepage”
3. Click on “Student Housing”
4. Select “Housing and Residential Ed.” from the left-hand menu
5. Click on “Housing U Portal”
6. Click on the “Campus Dining Plan” tab from the top menu
7. Select the term and meal plan you want to purchase!
