For most students, attending the University of Utah is an exciting opportunity to find out more about themselves, the world and more importantly, earn a first-class education. Despite the hundreds of fields of study and the different paths each student will take, one realization is shared by all — college is expensive.

Hoping to provide some relief to their most valued customers on campus, the University Campus Store and America First Credit Union are stepping in to help.

Beginning January 2017, the University Campus Store and America First Credit Union will give away a $500 grant each month to one University of Utah student, to be applied toward tuition, school supplies or textbook expenses. This grant supports the University Campus Store and America First Credit Union’s goals of lowering the overall cost of education and serving as a top resource for University of Utah students.

“Between tuition, books, supplies and living expenses, it’s harder every year for students to make ends meet,” said Dan Archer, director of the University Campus Store. “It’s important that we help them succeed here at the U and this partnership does just that, easing the financial burden on students during the time they need it most.”

“Our mission at America First Credit Union is to improve the financial well-being of our members and community partners such as the University of Utah,” said America First Credit Union President and CEO John B. Lund. “We are excited to be a resource for many dedicated students as they work towards their education and hope to nurture those relationships for the milestones in their futures.”

Currently enrolled University of Utah students can enter to win the $500 grant online. At the end of each month, the Campus Store will select a winner at random and award that student a $500 grant to help loosen their financial belt, freeing up time and energy that can be redirected toward completing their degree. Students are welcome to enter each month but may only win one time. The promotion will run through both spring and fall semesters in 2017.
