The new cohort of USafety Ambassadors is launching the first series of “Courageous Conversations” for this academic year on Nov. 29 from 12-1:30 p.m.
The Courageous Conversations series was launched in 2021 by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). During this series, students, university administration and DPS representatives had vulnerable conversations about campus policing, mental health and the Racist and Bias Incident Response Team (RBIRT).
Courageous Conversations presents an opportunity for the following:
- Increase student involvement and feedback to shape the strategic direction of DPS
- Provide a direct connection and means of communication between students and the DPS leadership team to uphold standards of transparency
- Foster a meaningful and inclusive dialogue about topical issues concerning campus safety
- Encourage students and DPS personnel to engage in discourse on challenging and pertinent topics.
Holding Courageous Conversations on campus shifts these often difficult conversations into learning opportunities that work to uncover and heal hidden biases, transform our campus into an inclusive and unified community where members value diversity, hold mutual respect, share power and resources and promote safety and social justice.
