  • Get moving in a U employee fitness class right on campus. We make staying consistent with your exercise program easy and fun! PEAK offers a wide variety of classes for every fitness level at seven locations around campus. Check out the attached newsletter or go here for information.
  • Personal training* can get you started on an individualized plan to meet your health and fitness goals (No cost WellU option).
  • Fitness assessment* will provide a baseline measure of your fitness so you can make some specific and attainable goals for 2017. Perfect in combination with a personal training session (No cost WellU option).
  • Bod Pod body composition test* – Accurate assessment of body fat percentage enables sensible decisions regarding nutrition and exercise programs (No cost WellU option).

Nutrition resolutions: eat more vegetables – improve your health – save money by cooking meals at home – pack your lunch – optimize weight

  • Meet one-on-one with a registered dietitian* to have your nutrition questions answered, learn some delicious recipes or make a plan to fill your diet with healthy foods. We can provide comprehensive dietary advice and counseling for those trying to lose weight, increase energy, improve performance or improve health.  (No cost WellU option).
  • Attend a PEAK nutrition workshop* PEAK provides several educational nutrition workshops each semester. Use the coupon code WELLU to receive the class at no cost as one of your WellU eligible services. Register here (No cost WellU option).

Overall Wellness Resolutions: practice mindfulness – manage stress – get organized – improve sleep – make sustainable lifestyle changes

  • A wellness coach* can help with a variety of different health goals, including: sleep, stress, weight management, exercise, nutrition, life satisfaction and time management  (No cost WellU option).
  • Join our Intensive Lifestyle Program – 12-weekly group sessions lead by a health coach with a focus on developing and maintaining healthy lifestyle choices resulting in improved sleep, energy, mood and focus. Live life to the Fullest Resolutions: Pick up a hobby – play more – enjoy your relaxation time

  • One-on-one leisure consultations will assist individuals in attaining a more well-rounded work/life/leisure balance. Your appointment will include an evaluation of leisure beliefs, motivations, satisfactions and interests and creation of an action plan to incorporate new leisure activities into your current lifestyle.   • Leisure education workshops offered through PEAK in conjunction with the Parks, Recreation and Tourism department are aimed at informing groups on the importance of leisure and the positive impact that a leisure filled lifestyle can have on one’s quality of life. Financial wellness Resolutions: Healthy lifestyle choices can save you $$

  • Regular physical activity can save money – According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association (September 2016), people who are regularly physically active (30 minutes of physical activity five days per week) can save $2,500/year in health care costs.
  • Cooking at home and bringing your lunch to work can save money and improve your health!

Did you know that participation in the WellU wellness program can save you up to $480 off next year’s insurance premiums? As part of the University of Utah’s Wellness program, WellU, benefit eligible University of Utah Employees are eligible to receive two no-cost visits to PEAK Health and Fitness between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017. DYING OF A BROKEN HEART

Is grief powerful enough to kill? The world is mourning the death of actress Debbie Reynolds who herself was in mourning following the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher just one day earlier. Could that grief have played a part in the stroke that killed her? “I was not surprised to hear of her death,” says Katherine Supiano, PhD, LCSW, FT, Director of the Caring Connections Grief Program at the University of Utah. “This is an uncommon phenomenon, but it does happen. Even the American Heart Association has recognized ‘broken heart syndrome’ as a cause of death following the death of someone close.”
