Faculty, research administrators and students from across campus are invited to attend a 2-hour, in-person town hall on November 16 from 1-3 p.m. that will launch the Utah Network for LGBTQ Thriving working group.Interested campus members will be invited to participate in the working group where they will engage in high-impact, interdisciplinary research on how to help LGBTQ Utahns and their family members thrive.
The network is a response to the Utah Suicide Prevent Coalition’s call for evidence-based strategies to promote LGBTQ health, specifically around social connectedness and belonging.
“LGBTQ Utahns and their family members have always faced unique challenges,” said Lisa Diamond, psychology professor and event organizer. “For example, over the past decade Utah’s youth suicide rate has been growing faster than the national average, and these challenges have grown in recent years due to the isolating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the political climate around LGBTQ health care.”
The location will be determined based on interest. Please RSVP by Wednesday, November 1 by clicking here on this link.
Questions should be sent to vprgrants@utah.edu.
