Celebrating U Completely: An evening of passion, people, purpose

At Student Affairs, our vision is for every student to discover their passion, find their people and pursue their purpose—and we mean every student.

To honor that commitment, the Center for Community and Cultural Engagement is hosting the annual “Celebrating U Completely Graduation Event” that recognizes the incredible journeys of students who have connected with Student Affairs in any capacity— employees, interns, scholars, leaders, volunteers, or participants. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 23, from 6- 8 p.m. in the Union Ballroom.

During this event, graduates will be honored with a commemorative Celebrating U Completely stole and may select up to two cords of their choosing.

Cord colors and meanings

Red, white and blue: Symbolizes unity, shared purpose, and pride in the journeys of students from across the United States.

Rainbow colors: Honors the resilience, innovation and creativity found within the disability community in all its forms.

Red, gold and white: Radiates warmth and celebration while honoring the strength rooted in deep Hispanic/Latine cultural heritage.

Lavender: Represents support for and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.

Sky blue: Reflects the ocean’s vast connections across islands and generations of Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians.

Black, white and green: Recognizes the courage and service of Veterans.

Orange and white: Bursts with energy and ancestral wisdom, balanced by clarity and peace, symbolizing Asian cultures.

Turquoise: Signifies protection, wisdom and a sacred, grounding connection to the Earth, representing Native American culture.

Black, red and gold: Carries and celebrates the legacy of the Black community through bold, regal, and powerful colors.

“Our hope is that every student at the university feels valued, seen, and heard,” said LeiLoni McLaughlin, director of the Center for Community and Cultural Engagement. “Through this unique ceremony, we aim to celebrate each of them and gift a stole they can wear with pride. We hope it becomes a lasting reminder of their time here, their community within Student Affairs and their entire student experience.”

Whether you’re graduating or supporting friends, students or colleagues, everyone is welcome to be part of this unforgettable evening of celebration, connection, and joy.
