The Home Away From Home (HAFH) program matches students with alumni, faculty, or staff who provide safe and affordable housing.
As a host, you:
- Receive $2,600 per semester or $650 per month.
- Provide a furnished bedroom and access to kitchen, bathroom, internet, and a quiet study area.
- Have access to athletic and cultural events.

FAQ
Hosts must be alumni, staff, or faculty of the University of Utah and reside in the home in which the student will live.
Students must be over age 18 and at the sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student level. International and married students are also eligible for the program.
Hosts and students determine with whom they will match. Program participants complete profiles describing themselves and communicate and choose who works best for them within the Forever Utah Alumni Network.
Hosts, students, and adults in the home over age 18 must pass a background check. Both hosts and students must provide three non-familial character references.
Hosts must provide a separate furnished bedroom, separate or shared bathroom, access to or separate kitchen, internet. and quiet study area.
Hosts are not required to provide any meals to the student but are encouraged to share a meal when appropriate.
Hosts receive $2,600 per semester or $650 per month if the stay is shorter than a full semester.
Hosts are paid in full per semester within the first month. Students pay directly to the Office of Alumni Relations and not to the host.
Payment for the fall semester includes winter break; there is no additional payment.
Our staff is in place to assist and respond to issues that arise working in partnership with risk management, general counsel, student affairs, and residential experience teams.
Two students may live in your home, as long as they each have a separate bedroom. You will be paid $2,600 for each student.
