Incoming students will now be able to apply for housing scholarships for the 2023-24 school year.
Working in partnership with Housing and Residential Education (HRE), the Clark and Christine Ivory Foundation is providing more than 100 scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $4,000 per student each semester, including summer. The scholarships can be used at any university-affiliated housing, including on-campus housing, the Draw in Sugarhouse, Downtown Commons, University Student Apartments and Ivory University House,
Director of Housing Rachel Aho said the scholarships will improve access to on-campus housing for first-generation and lower-income students, who may not be able to experience living on campus due to the cost.
“The launch of these new housing scholarships will allow many more students to take advantage of the on-campus living experience,” Aho said. “Living on campus helps to support student well-being and success by providing community, convenience and connection. We encourage all students to apply!”
To apply, students will have to write a 500-word essay describing their current work and community service experiences and explaining why a housing scholarship would support their success at the university.
“We are thrilled to be seeing the incredible momentum for a more active and vibrant campus,” said Clark and Christine Ivory, benefactors of Ivory University House and trustees of the Clark and Christine Ivory Foundation. “This year will be unlike any other in university history and we cannot wait to watch students thrive with these opportunities.”
Eligible students must be either incoming first-year students, undergraduate transfer students or undergraduate continuing students. Applicants must be enrolled at the U full time (at least 12 credit hours per semester) and must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. The student’s financial needs, work and community service commitments may also be considered.
The deadline for applications is March 1. Scholarship awards will be announced on March 31.
A handful of housing scholarships also are available from Chartwells and U First Federal Credit Union. For more information, check HRE’s website.
