“I chose the U because of its proximity to my family and the lifestyle I get to have here. Being able to go skiing at six different ski resorts all within an hour radius is pretty spectacular. I transferred to the University of Utah. I was at the University of Florida on the pre-med track but realized that wasn’t for me. So when I transferred to the U, I also switched my path to business. I wanted to be challenged and work with large sets of data while using critical thinking to solve complex problems.
The most meaningful experience I have had out of class would have to be completing the Ironman triathlon. It’s a race that covers 140.3 miles including a 2.4 miles swim, a 112-mile bike ride and concludes with a marathon. That race was by far the hardest thing I have ever done, and probably for a long time, will be the hardest thing I ever do. It was also the most rewarding and life-changing experience I have had to date.
Outside of a degree from the University of Utah, I hope to gain the ability to connect with people and develop lifelong friendships. My classes that have been taken through the Honors college have been great for developing those qualities. Most honors classes are filled with people of all different majors and backgrounds. I enjoy the diversity of perspectives that those classes provide.
I would tell a younger student to not be afraid to get involved and start early. I know it can be overwhelming when you get to college, but everyone wants to see you succeed. I’m someone that operates more efficiently when my schedule is filled, so finding ways to spend my time was intimidating at first. If you can start putting yourself out there, I can guarantee that you will see returns.
When I leave the U, I hope to have helped other students find opportunities within campus to really help grow themselves. It’s important to be aware of the different opportunities that are available on campus. I am sure there are plenty that I still don’t know about. It would be really fulfilling if I can leave the U having guided or coached other peers in an effort to help them excel in their time here.”
