During Welcome Week, student groups, campus departments and many organizations across campus host a number of programs and activities to welcome all new and returning students to the University of Utah. Activities begin with move-in day the week before the start of fall semester and run the week after classes begin.

This year, the Office of Orientation & Transition is offering two, one-time grants of $500 to help fund Welcome Week programs. Events should provide a glimpse into facets of life on campus, including academic, social, athletic, cultural, artistic and wellness. Events must take place between Aug. 1531, 2019.

Welcome Week grant applications will be accepted through Friday, May 24, 2019, at 5 p.m., and can be completed online through the 2019 Welcome Week grant application.

To qualify, each department or student organizations will be responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of the event, including reserving space on campus. The Office of Orientation & Transition will include all grant recipient events in the broad marketing for Welcome Week. The following restrictions are put on funding:

  • Funds cannot be used for marketing individual events
  • Events cannot serve as a fundraiser
  • Admission fees cannot be charged to attend the event
  • Events must be held on the U campus
  • Events cannot conflict with:
    • New Student Welcome: Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    • PlazaFest: Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
    • Block U Class Picture: Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, 3-4:30 p.m.

After the event takes place, departments or organizations must submit proof of expenditures to be reimbursed up to the amount of their grant award. All receipts and proof of payment must be documented in the Office of Orientation & Transition by Friday, Sept. 13, 2019.

We look forward to working with you and your innovative ideas designed to showcase all that the University of Utah has to offer.
