A BUSY PROFESSOR’S GUIDE TO SANELY FLIPPING YOUR CLASS – CYNTHIA FURSE

Flipped, hybrid, online, technology-assisted, active learning…we’ve all heard about these courses and how effective active learning can be. But it can be daunting to figure out how to apply it in YOUR class. This video describes how I have ‘flipped’ the classroom for a large required undergraduate engineering course. I’ll talk about why I did this and how I got started, what worked and what didn’t, what I’ve learned that seems to be key to success and how to make the in-class time successful. We’ll talk about this from a student point of view (what works for them) and from a faculty point of view (a busy professor’s guide to sanely flipping your class).

TEACHING FLIPPED
Aug. 31 – Oct. 12
Cost per enrollment: Free

Ready to flip your classroom? Teaching Flipped is a free, six-week online course offered through Canvas Network, which started Aug. 31, but you can still sign up. Find out more about what it takes to flip your class and work through the process step-by-step with instructors Cindy Furse, Donna Ziegenfuss and Alyson Froehlich at the University of Utah. Topics include the basics of the flipped classroom, creating of video lectures, planning active learning face to face (F2F) experiences and taking the leap to fully flip.
