Outdoor Activities and Severe Weather

With the warm weather upon us, outdoor activities such as concerts, picnics and barbecues will be a great ways to create fun and team unity.  However; injuries caused by lightning strikes are the number one severe weather incidents for the State of Utah.

If you are organizing an outdoor activity, check the local forecast well in advance of the activity and plan accordingly.  The Meteorology dept. website (weather.utah.edu) is a great resource.  Have a backup plan in place in case weather impacts your activity.

University employees must be familiar with the steps and actions to take in the event of severe weather when working outdoors.  If you hear thunder, get indoors.  Consult the Campus Emergency Flipchart for additional severe weather guidelines.
