Move-in day 2018

To ease congestion and prevent major traffic delays, here are the parking impacts during Move-in Day on Aug. 16.

Over the span of 10 hours, nearly 3,700 students and hundreds of cars will make their way to campus to drop students off for the year. This Thursday, Aug. 16, from morning until night cars will be arriving crammed full of clothes, backpacks, books and our students ready to take on the 2018-2019 school year.

Welcome to your new home on campus. We are excited that you will be living with us.

The Housing and Residential Education team has been working tirelessly to ensure this is the smoothest Move-in Day yet. This year they have scheduled the drop-offs throughout the day to ease congestion and prevent major traffic back-ups and delays. They even enlisted Swoop to pass along some helpful moving tips ahead of time.

Directional signage will be in place the day before to guide students and their parents to the appropriate drop-off location. Staff will be on hand at all designated areas, ready to greet the new arrivals.

Impacted areas:

  • Lassonde Studios and adjoining parking lots
  • Marriott Honors community and adjoining lots
  • Fort Douglas Blvd
  • Stadium parking lot
  • Wasatch Drive

Look for Swoop, he’ll be roaming and greeting students all day. From start to finish, staff and volunteers expect to see at least 9,000 people, hundreds of red carts full of personal belongings, lots of recyclable materials and 1,000 buckets of happy tears from parents.

The day will end with a delicious barbecue tailgate dinner from 5-8 p.m. on the east lawn behind the Peterson Heritage Center. Bring your friends and family to celebrate your first night on campus.
