An update from the President’s Commission on Equity and Belonging on Day of Collective Action and more.

A message from President Randall

A message from Vice Presidents Mary Ann Villarreal and Lori McDonald

We write today with updates on the Day of Collective Action and progress made by the Presidential Commission on Equity and Belonging (PCEB).

Thanks to the efforts of the Day of Collective Action Committee, the Day of Collective Action on March 22 has 20+ events scheduled to take place across our campus throughout the entire day. The schedule is being finalized and will be published on the PCEB website soon. In the meantime, we encourage you to:

In the coming weeks, the PCEB will send a brief survey to faculty, staff and cabinet members to prepare an inventory of the collective EDI efforts across campus.

The EDI Strategy Councils are off to a great start. The councils launched in December and met as one large group at the beginning of March. The EDI Strategy Council builds on the model of Shared Equity Leadership (SEL), in which leadership and accountability for equity is shared between campus representatives at all levels of the institution. At the U, the EDI Strategy Council will center equity processes, practices, and behaviors in its member leadership who will further engage and ignite participation in their units.

Finally, we have scheduled several listening sessions for faculty to discuss their experience related to equity, diversity, and belonging at the U. Faculty, please be on the lookout for invitations to sign up to attend.

April 19, 3-4 p.m. Adjunct Faculty
April 19, 4-5 p.m. Career-line Faculty, main campus
April 29, 12-1 p.m. Assistant Professor Tenure-line Faculty
April 29, 1-2 p.m. Associate Professor Tenure-line Faculty
April 29, 3-4 p.m. Professor Tenure-line Faculty

This summer, the PCEB will work to aggregate the feedback and develop a plan to address issues and themes identified from these sessions.

Thank you all for your commitment to keeping us accountable and for your dedication to making the U a place we are proud to call home. We look forward to seeing you at the Day of Collective Action.
