Announcer: The “Health Minute,” produced by University of Utah Health.
Interviewer: How can you be sure that that supplement you’re taking really contains what the bottle says it does? Dr. Erin Fox, how can a consumer be sure?
Dr. Fox: That’s a great question because there’s actually no law that says that a supplement has to actually contain what the bottle says it contains. But there’s one way that you can be sure, and that’s to look for the USP Verified mark. This will tell you four things.
One, it actually contains the ingredients on the bottle and in the right amount. Two, it doesn’t contain anything harmful. Three, it’s actually going to break down and dissolve in your body. And four, it’s been made in a clean factory that’s safe. So the next time you’re shopping, be sure to look for the USP Verified mark so that you know you’re actually getting what you’re paying for.
