“I am studying game development and theater and potentially English, so I am considering being a triple major.
My goal is to combine theater and game development. The first, and maybe most obvious way, is with voice acting or motion capture. Voice acting has been a longtime dream of mine and I have already had a few voice acting opportunities with games that have been made at the U this year. That has been awesome! I want to become better so I can do this more.
The other way I see my studies coming together is learning to understand the world through the lens of a character—whether it’s in a play or reading—always gives me a new perspective. Gaining this perspective gives me new ways of thinking about things, and when I am constantly getting these new ideas in my head, it’s a really good cycle for creativity. It makes it easier to make new stories or make new games, and doing those things also helps me reflect on my acting.
During my first year at the U, I really appreciated getting close to my theater cohort. It’s a tight–knit group and has given me the opportunity to be part of a core group of people. I have also developed good friends through living on campus at Lassonde Studios. Some of these people I am working on game design projects with, and some of them I worked on a film project with this summer.
While I’ve been here, I’ve been working on making connections with others. When I meet new people, I’ll tell them who I am and ask them if they want a business card, because I’ve made one for my acting. It’s a little goofy, but it breaks the ice really well. It leads to easier conversation, and I have met a lot of cool people this way. As I continue at the U, I want to keep making friends and meeting interesting people.”
