UIT will move some users to web-only Microsoft licenses starting April 17

Starting Wednesday, April 17, 2024, on an ongoing basis, UIT will begin moving University of Utah faculty and staff and University of Utah Health personnel who have not been individually assigned university-owned devices from Microsoft Education A5 licenses to Microsoft Education A1 licenses. Affected users will be contacted prior to the change.

Users with A1 licenses will have access to all Microsoft 365 (M365) web and mobile applications except for Microsoft Bookings, My Analytics, and Power BI, and some Microsoft Teams phone features. A1 users will not be able to use M365 desktop apps or mobile apps on devices with screens larger than 10.9 inches.

The change will not affect user data, files, or permissions.

UIT is making the change to reduce the university’s licensing costs and better meet users’ software needs. The University of Utah is committed to providing users with the appropriate licenses for their needs. If you have a business need for a different license, please contact UIT Senior IT Product Manager Clayton Norlen at clayton.norlen@utah.edu.
