Thank you to Bill Warren and UMC leadership transition

Bill Warren is leaving the U after ten years.

President’s Leadership Council –

Please join me in thanking Bill Warren for his service to the university as our Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO) and congratulating him on his new position as the Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Stony Brook University in New York. Bill is a talented marketing and communications leader, and the university has benefitted greatly from his leadership of University Marketing & Communications over the past 10 years.

Bill was hired by President Michael Young as the U’s inaugural CMCO and launched the first campus-wide branding campaign, known as Imagine U. Now in its ninth year, the campaign continues to drive local and national recognition for the university. During his time as CMCO, Bill restructured and built the University Marketing & Communications Office (UMC) into an award-winning team focused on key areas of crisis communications and issues management, digital strategy, strategic marketing, and creative services. He also oversaw the redesign and rebrand of the University of Utah Magazine—in both print and digital formats—and the two public media stations whose licenses are held by the University, PBS Utah and KUER. And, we are especially grateful for the work his team has done to meet the unprecedented communications and marketing needs that the pandemic has necessitated.

To keep the momentum of the UMC team going strong, I’m pleased to announce that Chris Nelson, the U’s communications director, has agreed to serve as Interim Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. Chris is well known across campus and has broad experience overseeing strategic communication and marketing efforts on both main campus and at U of U Health.

Again, my thanks and congratulations to Bill.

Sincerely,

Taylor R. Randall

President
