Sweat for a Vet 5K

Registration is $30 for the general public/$15 for veterans or students.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, the Student Veterans at the U (SVU) will be holding their third annual “Sweat for a Vet 5K” on campus.

This 5k fun run raises money to support SVU community service events, veteran support activities, and the Dannie Stubbs Memorial Scholarship. The SVU creates a support network for fellow veterans, increases awareness and understanding of veterans’ issues on campus, and promotes the success of student veterans through service, leadership, and more recently, scholarships. The SVU is a chapter of the Student Veterans of America.

Laura “Dannie” Stubbs was a student veteran and amazing person who has been truly missed since her passing in 2017.  She was a friend to everyone that came through the Veterans Support Center (VSC).   She cared for the success of each individual veteran – from ensuring they had a friend in the VSC to helping them register for classes.  Her smile brightened any room she walked into, and her voice would fill the entire center with warmth and laughter.   Last year, the SVU began honoring her memory with a scholarship dedicated to veteran success.   Dannie touched so many veterans’ lives and she is remembered so fondly that the vet who proposed the scholarship never even met her.

Registration is $30 for the general public/$15 for veterans or students.  Registration comes with a t-shirt.  If you are interested in being a sponsor, contact Madasyn McGlothlin, SVU president, at mmcglothlin@sa.utah.edu.
