This Monday, Sept. 20, members of the Hillel for Utah club will be celebrating the first day of the week-long holiday of Sukkot by rocking in rocking chairs for 24 hours to raise support for the Feed U Pantry. These rockin’ members of the club will host different activities throughout the 24 hours beneath a “sukkah”—a temporary living space with a ceiling and open walls—that will include food, music, movies and games.
To honor the holiday, a sukkah will be placed on the patio of the Student Union for the 24-hour rock-a-thon and will remain on campus until the end of the holiday. Faculty, staff, students and members of the community are encouraged to bring donations of food or money to support the Feed U Pantry.
The event begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20 and will end at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021.
Sukkot is one of the most joyful Jewish holidays and is also known as the “Festival of Tabernacles” and the “Feast of Booths.” It celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates 40 years of wandering the desert as the Jews fled Egypt. Hillel for Utah welcome the U community to stop by to learn more about the holiday, the club and the Feed U Pantry.
