Notes on using Zoom

Zoom can be used for group chats, not classroom instruction.

Many faculty and instructors have raised questions about using the online meeting software Zoom. While Zoom can be FERPA compliant – it is only compliant when entered into the proper contractual agreements with the company. The university has not yet implemented a contractual relationship with the company for campus-wide use. Yes, Zoom can connect with Canvas, but that does not automatically make it FERPA compliant for the U. Faculty are asked to use Canvas, Kaltura and ConexED because they are integrated, and the university has contractual relationships protecting university data, while also ensuring that they will scale to meet the university’s increasing bandwidth demands. They also provide a single experience for our students across all of their classes.
